When you think of the winter holidays, you think of holiday movies and songs. December is one of my favorite times to rewatch (or watch for the first time) some classic movies. These are movies that you only watch once a year and enjoy them each time you watch them. I’ve created my (and Johnny’s, yes we debated for a few hours) top 10-holiday movies list.
My Holiday Movies List
1. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
I still crack up every time I watch this movie.
2. Home Alone
This movie you have to watch while eating nothing but junk food.
3. Bad Santa
The best raunchy Christmas movie that will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
4. A Christmas Story
The relationship that the main character has with his family and the spirit of Christmas is incredible and relatable for everyone.
5. Die Hard
If you want a classic action-packed holiday flick with Bruce Willis at his badass best, then this is the movie for you. “Yippee Ki Yay Mother Fucker.”
6. Home Alone 2
A sequel that is also a classic. Also, you must eat a cheese pizza while watching this movie.
7. Love Actually
Talk about tug at your heartstrings. This movie has many sweet stories.
8. Elf
This movie is a lovable and endearing comedy that will be sure to be your favorite.
9. The Muppet Christmas Carol
It’s an adorable retelling of the original Christmas Carol but with The Muppets. How could you not love that?!
10. The Grinch That Stole Christmas
Either the live action or the animated movie would hold up on this list. For us, Johnny would choose the live action where I would choose the animated version.
Well, that’s our list that I usually get through before the end of December. Here are a couple of runner-ups that I will most likely watch as well: It’s a Wonderful Life, Meet me in St. Louis, The Holiday, While You Were Sleeping, The Family Stone, Holiday Inn, Scrooged, Lethal Weapon, and Miracle on 34th St.
Here are some other fun holiday movies that didn’t make our list or our runner-ups, but still fantastic movies: Gremlins, Edward Scissorhands, Surviving Christmas.
So what are your favorite movies that you watch this time of year?
