I’m a fan of having a productive morning. Whenever I have one, I always feel way more accomplished. There’s nothing like starting your day off successfully. So how do you have a more productive morning? I’m sharing 10 tips that will get your morning started right.
Now I know 10 seems like a lot, but honestly, it’s really just a checklist of achievable steps to improve your morning.
How to Have a Productive Morning
1. Get a goodnight’s sleep
Yes, to have a productive morning, you must start the night before. Getting a good night’s sleep is essential. Try and set a clear “bedtime” each night and stay off the digital devices at least 30 minutes before you turn down.
2. Wake up at a set time
Similar to the previous tip, you’ll want to set a clear “wake up” time. If your body is on a regular schedule, it will be much easier to stick with a morning routine. Now, you also might consider waking up earlier than you would naturally wake up so that you have plenty of time for your morning routine.
3. Make your bed
Making your bed when you wake up is advice that I’ve heard as long as I can remember. However, it works. By making your bed in the morning, it creates closure between you and sleep. It also makes you feel accomplished and more together.
4. Stay off your electronic devices
Stay off your electronic devices for a minimum of 30 minutes to an hour. Yes, this is a challenging practice. However, when you don’t lay in bed scrolling through your phone for hours you’ll find that 1) your day isn’t influenced by what you read, and 2) you’ll want to get out of bed and be productive.
5. Practice mindfulness & gratitude
When you start your day with mindfulness and gratitude, you’ll find that you get into a positive mindset. It will also allow you to set the intention for your day. You can do this through 10 minutes of mediation or journal writing. This practice will set your day up for success.
6. Move your body
Move your body in the morning. You don’t have to have an intense workout routine, but the movement will get the blood flowing in your body, which will stimulate your brain. A few easy body movement ideas include 15-30 yoga, 10 min of stretching, 30 min walk, half-mile jog. Whatever you choose to do, make sure that you move.

7. Eat a healthy breakfast
Put away the donuts. Yes, you heard me. What we put into our bodies in the morning will have a lasting effect throughout the day. Start by eating a healthy breakfast. This meal doesn’t have to be time-consuming or a gourmet meal. You could even prep this the day before if it saves you time. Some ideas include overnight oats, smoothies, or avocado toast.
8. Get Ready by getting dressed
If you’re working from home, this is especially important. You want to make sure that you’re getting ready for the day by getting dressed. When you get dressed, it sets the intention for the day and will have a positive effect on your energy and wellbeing.

9. Review your schedule & set goals
Before you get into your day and down to work, review your schedule, and set achievable goals for the day. Feel free to adjust and tweak your schedule if needed to achieve your goals. Also, remember to leave time in your day for taking breaks.
10. Keep a positive attitude
Keeping a positive attitude is essential. If you wake up and dread all of these tips or your morning, it will set the mood and vibe for your day. Try to have an open mind, especially if your morning routine gets interrupted or skipped altogether. You might not be able to control everything that happens in your morning, but you can manage your reactions and attitude.
Closing Statement
Even if you did half of these tips, you would find your mornings will be more productive and enjoyable. I know that for me, I try to practice each of these 10 steps every morning. When I accomplish all of them, I always feel amazing and get so much done.
If you practice any of these tips or have any additional ones, please feel free to share them in the comments.

Oh jeez, avocado toast is such a millennial thing to say. Keep breakfast simple with a banana. Also I disagree with staying off your devices. Embracing technology in the morning will help you wake up (might depend on what you’re reading though haha). I think the real goal here is to limit the time on your device when you’re in social situations ๐ทโ

When you first wake up, I recommend holding off on your devices for 30 min to an hour. That way, you can decide on the intention of your day rather than being influenced by media. But other than that, yes, let’s embrace technology.
