Although it’s fun to go out, staying at home can be an entertaining date night. I know what you’re thinking, but my partner and I stay home every night; why would we do the same for our night out. Well, the answer to that is easy.

Most weekday nights, you’re both tired from work, and you end up watching mindless hours of TV, or maybe you’re distracted with other things. The difference between a “stay at home date night” and any other night is that these nights would be created with intention. So here are 3 home date night ideas for you to try.
Movie Night
Movie night may sound lame, but the key is to have fun with it. Basically, make it an event. How do you do that? First, you’ll want to agree upon a movie. This could be a rental or a must-watch classic, but the key is that all parties agree to which movie will be watched. Second, you want to add all of the fun of going to the theater into your home. So get popcorn, your favorite candy, and drinks to have during the movie.

The last part about a fun movie night is to get comfortable. I like to create a pillow and blanket oasis on my floor so that we’re not just sitting on the couch like we do for most movie nights. By doing this, it makes it more of an occasion rather than your regular night of TV.
Must-haves For An Amazing Movie Night:
- Pick an agreed upon movie
- Create a pillow and blanket oasis
- Grab your favorite movie snacks
- Turn off the lights
- Get cozy
Cook Dinner
Cooking dinner together is one of my favorite date nights. Usually, I’m the one cooking, so when it’s a team effort, I always appreciate it. Much like the movie, you’ll want to agree on a menu. Try to choose something that you don’t normally make but within your wheelhouse of skills.
You can assign each of you to do a task like prep work or cooking, but make sure that each person has a role; otherwise, it won’t feel fun. So put a date in your calendar, set the menu, get the ingredients, and have fun with it.
Here are some fun recipe suggestions:
- Easy Sheet pan Pizza by Half Baked Harvest
- Vegan Gnocchi and Mushroom Florentine by Rabbit and Wolves
- Spicy Mango & Avocado Brown Rice Sushi by Pickles & Honey
Play a Board Game
There are so many board games available now than there ever have been before, so you’re bound to find one you both enjoy. I’m partial to co-op games where you play as a team against the game, rather than competing against my partner. However, you choose one that fits your game style.
For game night, I recommend adding a bit of fun by getting a variety of snacks and creating a fun drink for the occasion. It will feel more like a special event rather than just a board game night.

Closing Statement
As we all stay in a bit more and more these days, it’s nice to have options for making date night a fun event. I’ve done all three of these and had an amazing time. They make eventful and exciting alternatives to going out.
