Have you ever thought to yourself, “my skin needs a break.” Now replace the word “skin” with things like “nails” or “hair.” Well, I’m here to tell you now is the time to take that break. I’m sharing six beauty rituals to do during this quarantine, so you will look refreshed and revitalized when you start becoming social again.
Seriously, now is the perfect time to give any of your trouble areas a break or some extra love. Why? Well, for the most part, you’re at home where no one (well almost no one) can see you. Trust me; if you don’t do your hair or make-up one day, there will be no one to notice.
Now, I’m not saying get sloppy, because taking care of yourself does take some effort. Here are a few ideas for you during this quarantine.
6 Beauty Rituals
1. Have No Make-up Days
If there was ever a chance to get your skin flawless (or close to it), it’s now. So often are we wearing makeup and not giving our skin a chance to breathe and be in its natural state. I highly suggest setting up 3-5 make-up free days during the week. If you’re video conferencing, choose the days with fewer meetings.
2. Stop Adding Heat To Your Hair
Stop using your hairdryer, flat iron, and curling wand. I know that sounds scary, but give your hair a chance to rest. If you’re like me, I’m continually doing things that will damage my hair (yes, even when it’s short), and heat is the number one culprit. Let your hair go a la natural; it will thank you when this is all over. If you’re concerned about your crazy locks, try using a scarf or wear a hat.
3. Instead of Nail Polish, Add a Treatment
Right about now, everyone’s gels and dips are starting to come off. Mine are long gone. So I could go into my beauty supplies, get more polish, and cover them back up, but I chose to give them a break instead. Now TRUST ME, my nails are the one thing that I hate to be bare. Which means they rarely get any TLC. Lately, I’ve been using a treatment (here) that gives them a glossy look and allows them to get stronger and back to normal.
4. Use Masks (Hair, Face, Hand, Feet)
For the past two years, beauty masks have become popular. However, we’re all so busy that we keep forgetting that we had some or allowed ourselves to make time for ourselves to enjoy a good mask. Well babe, now is the time. Add it to your morning, afternoon, or evening routine. I’ve been using Botnia Gentle Hydration Mask (here) multiple times a week.
5. Be Aware of What You Eat
Yes, food is something that affects your skin and your body, so I’m counting it as a beauty ritual. Before we all went to quarantine, we were on the go so much or out socializing that we rarely had too much time to think about what you were eating. There are no excuses now since you’re home. Take some time to plan out your meals so that when we finally get to go back out into the world, you’ve been maintaining healthy eating habits.
6. Get Plenty of Sleep
I know to get sleep is easier said than done, especially when there’s a global pandemic. But getting sleep helps maintain your looks, stress levels, and overall health. Some tips for sleeping: try getting some physical activity if you can during the day, meditate right before bed, turn off the electronics 30 minutes before you go to sleep, and go easy on the caffeine during the day.
Closing Statement
If you’re anything like me, I fully intend to come out of this quarantine, looking refreshed and ready to socialize. I know this time has been hard on all of us, so always remember to take care of yourself and be respectful of others. I can wait to see what we all look like after this is over.
