I don’t know about you, but this year has been the year of the cold. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been looking for more natural cold remedies. And I’m happy to say that I’ve found a few that work.
Now, please don’t get me wrong, if I need to, I will take products like DayQuil or Tylenol. I’m merely stating that I’m choosing more natural cold remedies as my first resort.
So for today’s post, I’m sharing 6 of these remedies that work.
Elderberry
If you have chatted with me at all this year, then you know that I swear by Elderberry. Last year my friend recommended Elderberry syrup because I was feeling sick right before my Hawaiian vacation. Not only did I not get the full force of the sickness, but I felt great a few days later.
Not only is Elderberry good for sickness, but it helps prevent it as well. My partner got sick twice this year, and I stayed consistent with my Elderberry, which prevented me from getting sick. Elderberry is in drug stores and health markets in several forms. My personal preference is syrup or gummies.
Hot Water, Honey, & Lemon
I know hot water with honey and lemon may not sound good, but this cold remedy helps with sore throats. The hot water and lemon cleanse your system while the honey coats your aching throat.
I’ve been trying to stick to natural and local honey because it’s supposed to help with allergies as well. Now that’s a double win!
Rest & Sleep
Rest and sleep are vital if you start feeling sick or are full-blown bed ridden sick. I know that seems like a “no duh,” but you would be surprised how many people skip the rest and push through their day jobs.
If you don’t rest or get sleep, it will take you longer to get better. There have been times that I canceled all of my appointments and took time off work to sleep. Not only did I feel much better the next day, but I was more productive.

Hydration
Stay hydrated! Yes, drink lots and lots of water. And then drink more water. It’s so essential for you to stay hydrated when you’re sick. The liquid will not only keep your throat moist, but it will prevent other ailments that are caused by dehydration.
Try to stay away from caffeine (I know, I said try) and alcohol when you’re sick. Both of these will cause dehydration.
Zinc & Echinacea
I’ve been taking zinc and echinacea when I’m sick for the past 10 years. Both of these will give your immune system a boost. You gotta love that, right?!
It’s been said that people who take zinc & echinacea have decreased symptoms. Sold!
Wellness Shots
I’ve been all about the wellness shots lately. These little action-packed shots are full of vitamins and spice. They usually contain lemon, ginger, tumeric, and cayenne pepper. Each of the ingredients in these shots boosts your immune system.
If you have a juicer, you can make these little shots yourself. However, if you are like me and don’t want to do the dishes, you can buy them at your local health food store.

Closing Statement
Wow, so much good stuff! As always, when it comes to sickness, always consult a doctor. And there are some things that natural remedies can’t fix. However, these natural remedies are perfect for those colds that interrupt your week. Let me know if you have any natural treatments that you stand by. Stay healthy, babes!
