In my latest trend report, I’m wearing a faux leather dress (here). When I bought this dress, I wanted to make sure that I would be able to style it in multiple ways.
I’m at a point in my life where I want to make sure that the items that I purchase have reusability. Why? Well, for starters, if I can reuse a single piece in multiple ways, then I’m getting more for my money. It also allows me to make use out of the items that I already own in my closet.
This faux leather dress is a statement piece, so I initially thought it would be challenging to style in multiple ways. To my pleasant surprise, it was quite easy -the reason why is because I thought of this piece as more than just a dress.
Six Ways to Style a Faux Leather Dress
Style 1
In this first style, I went with keeping it a dress. I’m wearing a turtleneck, which is perfect for transitioning to and from seasons. In the original look (above), it’s more of a nightlife outfit. However, this look is a perfect way to wear faux leather during the day.

Style 2
In this second style, this is when I transition the dress to a vest. I’m wearing the same turtleneck (another reusable piece). To keep a more dressy look, I add a plaid skirt. And to keep it a bit edgy, my favorite combat boots.

Style 3
For the third style, I wanted to create a more office-appropriate outfit. Using the dress as a vest again, I’m pairing a black sweater with black wide-leg pants. Since this is an all-black outfit, I add a pair of leopard pumps for a flare.

Style 4
In this fourth style, I’m creating a fun look with a white shirt dress. I’m wearing the dress as a vest paired with a red beret and the same black combat boots.

Style 5
With the fifth style, I decided to go with a more casual outfit. Since I wear jeans at least twice a week, I needed to utilize them in one of these looks. I’m wearing the same sweater as style three, and I add a black beret and a leopard clutch.

Style 6
For the sixth and final style, I created a style that would be perfect for the spring/summer seasons. I’m wearing a graphic tee (that I’ve had for years, shown here), a pair of denim shorts, and my combat boots. To top it off, I added a black hat, which pulls the look together.

Closing Statement
If you notice in a lot of the styles, some pieces are interchanged between these looks. I have a few goals that I’m trying to accomplish with my wardrobe. Firstly, I’m very conscious of my purchases. If it’s a piece that I can only wear once or in one way, I’m most likely not going to purchase it. Secondly, I want to get the maximum use out of the pieces that currently exist in my wardrobe.
You may have noticed that some of my more recent fashion posts are highlighting a more sustainable and conscious wardrobe (here and here). Those terms “sustainable” and “conscious,” is not just about the clothes that I purchase, but it includes re-wearing items in my closet.
