Ever since I was little, I was obsessed with the 70’s vintage look. I would wear bell bottoms, polyester, and platform shoes even before they were popular again (polyester made a brief comeback in the late 90’s….very brief). I remember that most kids in my school were wearing jeans and t-shirts, while I was sporting bright orange plaid pants. I was/and still am a sucker for a vintage look and style that makes a comeback. It always gives me a nostalgic feeling when I see an outfit from my childhood come back into style.
When styles make their way back into fashion (and they almost always do), they will have a modern twist which makes them standout from the look of previous decades. It’s for this reason why I try not to hang onto those older items because I know I will want the modern version of them (there are a few exceptions).
If you’ve seen my previous blog posts, then you know that I have shown some throwback looks from decades past. One look that I’m into right now is 70’s vintage look. For me, the 70’s is about colors such as muted pinks, oranges, burgundies, yellows, cream, brown, and black. I find influence by the patterns of stripes, plaids, and florals that are reminiscent of this decade.
There is some signature looks from this era which has inspired some of my wardrobe choices. The bell/flare pant leg is one that will always draw my eye. It creates a lovely silhouette that looks amazing on any body shape. This time also consists of midi dresses and skirts, heavy on the leather, and hats. I’m all about the hats overall, but a few from the 70’s have my interest. I recently purchased the fisherman’s cap that you are seeing all over social media right now. In my closet, I also have a few berets in several colors, which I’ve been wearing for the past few years now. I can’t seem to get enough of this look.
In the pictures for this post, I was feeling a very 70’s vintage vibe. The burgundy bodysuit is very simple with the denim midi skirt. I have a cute fanny pack in cognac that matches my chunky wood heel shoes. The shoes are very 70’s as noted by the platforms with chunky heels.
Fashion will always come back around. I remember when I was younger my mother commenting on my clothes because they were similar to her generation. For me, I’ve already seen the clothes from my childhood come back around. This post won’t be the only time I share this decade or any other decade with you as inspiration comes from our past, present, and future. Tell me, what decade inspires your style?
