In my most recent “Loving Lately” article, I talk about loving the Audible app. I’ve always loved reading, but lately do not have the time to sit down to read a book. I listen to the Audible app while I’m driving, running, working out, or taking a walk. I wanted to share some of the books that I have been “reading” in the app as well as the books on my wishlist as well.
Girlboss by Sofia Amoruso
I enjoy this book immensely. I first heard about this book a few years ago and bought a physical copy. This book is an autobiography about how the founder and CEO of Nasty Gal went from being unable to hold a job, stealing, and dumpster diving to starting her own eBay store and company. I found it very inspiring and empowering. Of course, I had to reread it. However, since I have very little time these days, I decided to get the book on Audible.
Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned by Lena Dunham
This book is another autobiography of the life of Lena Dunham. In this book, she goes through her life from childhood to adulthood. She describes her thoughts and choices that lead her to be a writer, actress, and director. It’s a funny and endearing story.
Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl: A Memoir by Carrie Brownstein
In this memoir, author Carrie Brownstein discusses early childhood and her life in her band, Sleater Kinney. The band, Sleater Kinney, was an all female punk rock band from the 90’s from the Pacific Northwest. This story is a candid and real story. I was not in the punk scene in the 90’s but hearing the story is getting a glimpse into that world. It wasn’t until after I got to the end of the book that I realized this was the writer/actress from Portlandia.
The following books that are in my wishlist: (in no particular order)
- The Princess Diarist by Carrie Fischer
- Wishful Drinking by Carrie Fischer
- Shockaholic by Carrie Fischer
- The Dark Tower series by Stephen King
- Of Mess and Moxie: Wrangling Delight out of This Wild and Glorious Life by Jenn Hatmaker
- Sporting Guide: Los Angeles 1897 by Liz Goldwyn
I plan to get through at least 2 of those books on my wish list by the end of the year. Another cool thing about Audible is that you can download the book to your device if you don’t want to use your data, which is perfect for a plane ride or long car ride. Overall, I hope you enjoyed my current list of Audible book recommendations. I would love to hear any of your reading suggestions. Please, feel free to leave them in the comments.
