Here’s another Audible book review for ya! I’m not quite sure how I stumbled upon the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert, most likely browsing through the Audible library.
There are times when I pick a book to read without even hearing about it, and “Big Magic” was one of them. Maybe it was the cover or the fact that I recognized the author from her bestseller, “Eat, Pray, Love.” I wasn’t a huge fan of that book, but I thought I would give it a go.
The Book
This book “Big Magic” is unlike Elizabeth Gilbert’s book “Eat, Pray, Love.” That book was a story about her journey in finding herself, while “Big Magic” is more of a mix between self-help and her experience with creativity.
In this book, Elizabeth Gilbert talks about what it takes to live a creative life by letting go of our fears. And the energy and life of an idea, and how it can transfer between people throughout time. She also discusses the antiquated idea that you must have suffering to live a creative life. You know that concept of the tortured artist. Well, she disagrees that a creative person must waste their energy on that notion.
The Narration
Elizabeth Gilbert narrates this Audible book. In past reviews, I’ve mentioned that it’s always nice to hear the author narrate their story. Thankfully, she has a nice voice and expresses a passion for her own words in the story.
The Book Review
I started this book and stopped halfway through, but eventually picked it back up and finished it. It was not because I didn’t like the book, but I think you need to be in the right mindset for a book like this one. I found this book to be inspiring, but no new concepts that I haven’t heard before. I would recommend this book, but it’s not at the top of my list for self-help books. Regarding healthy and positive creative habits and lifestyle, I would say it ranks pretty high.
Closing Statement
If you’re looking for an easy book to read, definitely go pick up a copy or add it to your Audible.
