For whoever needs to hear it, it’s ok to have bad days. No, really. Let that one sync in a bit. We’re told to be happy, happy, happy all the time, but that’s not possible. The goal is to be happy with your life and yourself, be in the moment. However, some of those moments will include bad days.
I listen to a podcast recently, and it talked about normalizing bad days. I’ve recently learned to lean into those days and allow myself to feel those feelings. Sometimes on those days, I want to do nothing but binge a show on Netflix and eat candy, and I do just that.
I suffered from depression in my past so having bad days made me think I was slipping back into it. And that would always scare me a little. But as it goes, it would last a day or two and then pass.
The goal is to be mindful during those bad days. Take your feelings into account and make sure that you’re offering yourself forgiveness. Basically, don’t be too hard on yourself.
For me, those bad days come few and far between these days, but I’m not so scared of them anymore. I’ve done a lot of work on myself, and I’ve created a healthy lifestyle and positive coping skills, which helps. I also know that it’s human to feel unhappy.
Bad Day Coping Skills
- Go out for a walk.
- Take deep breaths.
- Listen to some music that speaks to your soul.
- Take a bubble bath or long shower.
- Write in your journal.
- Engage in positive self-talk.
The reason why it’s important to be mindful during these times is that you want to make sure that you don’t spiral into your bad days. When bad days become weeks and months, it’s very possible there’s a larger issue at play. If that’s the case, I recommend talking to a therapist to help sort through whatever you’re going through.
Closing Statement
I hope this article gives you some comfort and normalizes those bad days for you. Just know that it’s human to feel happy and unhappy. It’s also possible to feel those emotions at the same time.
