As part of my new format, I wanted to share more things that I enjoy with you all. One of those things would be books. I love reading (contrary to what my boyfriend would believe). Most of the time, I listen to book on audible, but I often read physical books (just really slowly).
One of my favorite books that I’ve read recently is Becoming by Michelle Obama. Now, I’m going to give my review with little to no spoilers, however, if I slip my apologies.
First, I would like to say that it doesn’t matter your politics, this book is for everyone. To me, that’s one of my favorite aspects of this book. It’s the story of a woman and her life. So without
The Book
As I said earlier, this book is the story of a woman’s life. We just happen to know this woman as the first lady to the 44th president of the United States. In her story, she starts by sharing her story as a child growing up in Chicago and her family. Hearing how she and her brother were raised was enlightening and really stood out to me. She came from humble beginnings, and she and her parents worked for everything that they had.
As the book progresses, it goes through her schooling and her life as a career woman. It goes through how she met Barack Obama and (spoilers) was not interested in him at all. She talks about holding on to her career while having children and the trail and errors that came along with the territory.
In the last half of the book, she discusses her life in politics. Not necessarily her view on politics but her (spoilers) aversion to them. I was surprised to hear that, but I loved how candid she was in her book.
The Takeaways
Michelle Obama’s story is (for the most part) completely relatable. I think that’s why I was drawn to this book so much. She comes across as real and down to earth.
I had the fortunate privilege of seeing Michelle Obama speak last year. When I walked away, I thought “hey, this chick could be my best friend.” Thinking it was only me that thought that I smiled when I heard ladies in the elevator saying the same thing to each other. That’s what’s so special about this book; she’s another gal telling her inspirational story of life, love, and becoming herself.
To me, this book is a must-read. I know you’ll be looking for a good book when you’re poolside this spring/summer. This book is inspirational and often relatable (except for her experience in the white house).

I donโt know much about her other than being First Lady. Now Iโm intrigued. Thanks for sharing!

I highly recommend this book. And if you ever get the chance to see her speak, definitely go.
