Although we are approaching fall, where I live in California, there is an endless summer. The days are sunny and hot with the night’s slightly cooler. An endless summer, although it sounds incredible, you end up missing out on the seasons. For me, my favorite season has always been the fall.
I’m speaking of the traditional “fall,” when the weather gets colder, and the leaves start changing color. However, the one thing that I love most about fall is the fashion. I love all of the boots, booties, sweaters, jackets, and hats. I adore the darker and muted colors as well as the thicker fabrics and patterns. Fall fashion will start hitting stores at the end of summer.
Now for me, living in California with an endless summer, I always get ecstatic about fall fashion. However, I will find it difficult to wear some of these fall items. It’s still just too damn hot here to wear the full get up. I will say the sweltering California heat does not deter me from purchasing and even wearing some of these fall pieces.
There are a few reasons why I will start buying these items early rather than later. One reason is to get in early on the fall styles while they are in stock. I like to stay ahead of the game regarding style. Also, chances are if I wait, the item of interest would be sold out. Another reason is that I can still wear some of these articles even though it is not quite the full fall look.
Typically, I will purchase pieces that I know I can still pair with summer clothes but will also wear with ease into fall. I usually start with sweaters, long sleeve shirts, flannels, and booties. These are all items that I can wear with a pair of shorts, a dress, and a skirt. I’ve already started the transition piece purchases, which I’m excited to share with you all in future posts.
Another good thing about this time of year is that all the summer clothes go on sale in order to make room for the fall lines. Right now is the perfect time to stock up on your favorite shorts, tanks, and tees. My advice is to stick with items that you know either you can continue to wear now or that are not “fad” pieces, so they are still relevant next year.
I’ve lived in California for the past nineteen years, so it feels like home more than where I grew up. I’ve acclimated the heat and constant sunshine by now, even though I dream of thunder and rain storms now and then. Every once in awhile I think about moving, but I know I would miss California’s endless summers.
