I’m breaking down all of those fashion faux pas rules again by wearing denim on denim. Yes, I’m wearing a Candian Tuxedo. No offense to all of my Canadian friends, but it’s a common term used for a denim jacket paired with jeans. This fashion faux pas was once deemed a “no-no” in style has now come back in full effect.
As the story goes (at least from the sources at Urban Dictionary) is that Bing Crosby was almost kicked out of a hotel in Canada wearing all denim. The famous denim company Levis heard of this and made him a tuxedo made out of all denim. Hence the name “Canadian Tuxedo.”
Now I’m a firm believer in following your style. So if denim on denim has always been your jam more power to you. I’ve only recently started getting on this denim look, and I love it. I seriously have been wearing denim on denim over the past few months on repeat. My favorite is the denim jacket with jeans. However, a denim skirt and jacket would be a fantastic pairing as well.
If the denim on denim trend is too much for you, a similar look and feel are achievable by pairing a chambray or light denim style shirt with jeans. Remember, follow your own rules and wear what you dig. Don’t let old fashion rules prevent you from wearing what you love. What are your thoughts on denim on denim? Leave a comment and let me know.
