Fall is upon us, so it’s time to get up to speed on the Fall and Winter 2020 trends. This year, it will be a bit of a strange season as the country begins to open slowly. However, just because you’re at home more than you usually would, doesn’t mean you can’t be on-trend for Fall and Winter season.
Fabric & Prints
Leather, Plaid, Fringe, Metallics, Lace, Sheer
Fall and Winter as tradition, always bring the moody fabrics and prints. It’s no surprise that plaid and check are showing up with the coming season. So if you bought some last year, you can pull them right back out from the depths of your closet.
Metallics such as gold and silver are both trending this season. The question is, are which one will you choose? Lace and sheer fabrics are also making its way in on the shelves of your favorite retailers. However, this fabric is usually sheer and worn with very little underneath.
The interesting thing that has come up this year is fringe. Long and short fringe is showing up in dresses, skirts, jackets, etc. So keep an eye out on how embellishment will show up in your stay-at-home garments.
Colors & Shades
Silver, Earthtones, Gray, Gold, Colorblocking
As mentioned above, silver and gold are going to be in this season. But if “shiny” isn’t your thing, all over gray is coming in just as strong. In past years we’ve set aside gray for beiges, but not this year. An all-gray look will be a contender this season.
Earthtones such as brown, tans, and their many variations will be prevalent. Being around during the late 1990s and early 2000s, this makes me reminiscent of those times.
Colorblocking is always fun, but mostly used for the bright colors will be making its way onto the streets and your favorite fashion Instagram feeds.
Wardrobe & Statement Pieces
Bold Shoulders, Vests, Chains, 1980s, 1990s, Mary Janes, Suits, Long Gloves
So many statement and wardrobe pieces are new this year. In regards to the decades that are trending, the 1980s and 1990s are still going strong. However, as I mentioned earlier, I see themes even rising from the early 2000s, such as the Mary Jane shoe. Be on the lookout for this style. If you’re an early adopter in fashion, this classic style is a good bet.
A few other pieces that stand out are vests and suiting. Now suiting has been trending for a few years, but vests just started creeping in slowly last year. You can already find them in your favorite retail stores.
Other standouts include bold shoulders (aka shoulder pads), chains, and long gloves.
Fall 2020 Runway Favorites
Closing Statements
I love most of the Fall and Winter 2020 trends. The ones that I don’t love, I must admit, they do intrigue me. I’m very curious about how some of these styles will translate into our current world/environment as the world has shifted a bit since these runway shows. Although, I’m already seeing most of them in my favorite retail stores.
