It’s that time to start talking about Fall Fashion Trends For 2022! Today we’re talking about the hottest upcoming trends for this coming fall and winter. You may have already started seeing some of these trends trickle into your social feeds and favorite retailers, while some may surprise you.
Our disclaimer with trends: We at TR&C believe you should not chase or follow trends to feel fashionable. You should always be wearing what you love regardless of any trends. However, we share these upcoming trends because we love fashion and style. Trends also can lead to inspiration and tell a style story. If a particular trend resonates with you, then enjoy it. Now that’s said, on with our fall fashion trends for 2022!
Fall Fashion Trends For 2022
Style Vibes
In this section, we’re going to discuss specific style vibes. These are not categorized by individual pieces but by an overall aesthetic.
90s Minimalism | 2000s | Y2K | Preppy | Equestrian
Fashion is cyclical, so it’s no surprise that we’ve seen a resurgence of Y2K (see here) and 2000s for the past couple of seasons. It’s not surprising that it’s carrying over into fall. However, we’re also starting to see that classic 90s minimalism. This style vibe includes low waistlines, basic vests, etc. Think simple is better.
In this category, we also have preppy. Now, preppy is pretty standard for fall with classic plaids and blazers. However, this season’s preppy has several different twists, such as school girl preppy, grunge, and punk preppy. We also see a very equestrian look coming from the fall 2022 runways. This look (aka “horse girl”) can be identified by pieces such as blazers with elbow patches paired with leggings and riding boots.

Each season includes some hot ticket trend pieces. You’ll see everyone wearing these items in some form or another, and this season has quite a few.
Cargos | Maxi | Minis | Statement Coats | White Tank | Corset | Leather | Bomber Jackets | Sheer
Ok, there’s a lot to cover in this category (see list above), so we’ll highlight a few new trends pieces. Cargos and maxi are back straight from the early 2000s. Maxi refers to the length of a skirt or dress. Generally, maxis hit the floor or near your ankles. Cargos in all prints and colors are back. We even see a twist with the wide-leg cargo pants.
The white tank is interesting because it’s such a closet staple, but you are seeing it everywhere. In the jacket department, bombers are also back. These are jackets that were trendy around 2010, but they are back and more unique than ever. Finally, the last piece that I will highlight is the statement coat. We are seeing a lot of robe coats on the runway, but will these translate to real life?
cOLOR STATEMENT
New hot colors or prints come into play each season, and this season is no different.
Hot Pink (Barbiecore) | Lilac | Chocolate | Caramel
We are seeing a resurgence of hot pink (this color was prominent in the early 2000s). It’s currently referred to as “barbiecore” and is showing up everywhere. Valentino’s Fall 2022 runway show was dripping this in hot pink. Lilac or lavender, basically that soft purple, is carrying over to fall. Generally, we don’t see too many colors or pastels for fall, but this year seems different.
A few other colors that traditionally align with fall are chocolate and caramel. These colors can be worn as separates but look oh so good in a monochromatic look.
SHOES & ACCESSORIES
And finally, our last category. No fall outfit would be complete without a perfect shoe or accessory.
OTK Boots | Ballet Flats | Mary Janes | Clogs | Big Bags | Balaclava | Neckties
The OTK boot is back. They paused for a couple of seasons but are here for fall. In addition, the ballet flat is making a return. Yes, it is true. Carrying over from the past few seasons, Mary Jane’s platforms and clogs are still showing up.
For the remainder of the accessories, big bags, balaclavas, and neckties are in! These trends started showing up a bit last year, but they are here more than ever this coming season.
