Today we’re talking about one of my favorite fall style tips: mixing textures. In fall, we have so many different textures in our fabrics. Soft chunky knits, sleek faux leather, fuzzy flannel, and tweeds have an abundance of textures.
Why mix textures? It’s an easy way to add depth and style to your look with minimal effort. Yes, you can look like a professional stylist dressed you just by adding this quick style technique. The best thing is that I guarantee that you already own a few different textures in your closet that are perfect for mixing.
3 Tips On Mixing Textures
Pair Unlikely Textures
When you pair unlikely textures, you almost always end up looking super stylish. An example would be to pair something soft with something cool and sleek, such as a chunky knit and faux leather. Here are some ideas:
- knits x leather
- lace x denim
- silk/satin x knits
- flannel x leather
- tweed x denim
Mix 2-3 Different Textures
The bare minimum is to mix two textures; however, adding a third will enhance your outfit. I’m pairing a tweed blazer with a sleek faux leather jacket and a silky blouse in the look I’m sharing today.
Be Adventurous
If you’re not used to mixing textures, it’s time to get out of your comfort zone. Start with something easy such as satin with a faux leather or satin with a chunky knit.
