I ended up finding fall, while recently on vacation. As you know, California’s weather has been in the upper 80’s and 90’s. This heat forces me to be creative to wear my fall wardrobe, which at this point has been a mixture of summer and warmer weather clothes.
On my recent vacation, I was in Nevada, Arizona, and Utah all within four days. On this trip, I was able to find fall. When I say fall, I mean colder weather, leaves are changing, and early sunsets. I was able to wear sweaters, jackets, and hats without sweating. Yes, I said sweating. In California, even when I wear a t-shirt and shorts these days, I’m sweating profusely in this heat. California this year, at least Central California, doesn’t seem to want to go into fall.
So I got back from my vacation, happy to be home but envious of the other state’s seasons. Low and behold, the next day was a beautiful fall day. Now, the leaves weren’t changing, but the sky had an overcast of clouds, and the sun is starting to set sooner. After looking at my weather app, I notice that the weather will be partly cloudy and in the high 60’s all week (and potentially rain on the weekend). I’m crossing my fingers, that fall is here to stay in California.
When dressing for this colder time of year, you want to add different pieces to your wardrobe that you wouldn’t have during the spring or summer seasons. The following are some tips for adding fall pieces into your wardrobe:
Tights
I like to add tights to my skirts and dresses when the weather starts getting colder. The tights help keep the chill off my legs and also adds to that “warm weather” cozy look. Tights are also excellent, because usually this time of year I start losing that bronzy glow, so it’s the perfect cover.
Hats
They say that heat leaves your body through your head, so an optimal way to keep warm is wearing hats. Knitted wraps also count in the “hat” category. Adding a hat or wrap is also ideal for covering those bad hair days (just saying).
Scarves
During this time of year, I start wearing light scarves, nothing too thick or knitted. Scarves will allow you keep warm without having to add too many layers. There are so many styles of scarves that it’s easy to mix and match.
Light Jackets
Since it’s only starting to get brisk during fall, light jackets are excellent for keeping warm and looking good. Jackets such as a denim jacket or a bomber are fitting styles that are not too heavy but will keep you cute and warm without overheating.
So if you are well into fall or if you just starting like this Californian, try adding some of those fall pieces into your closet rotation. Do you have any other accessories that you like to add for fall? Leave a comment and let me know.
