Lately, it’s been a struggle to find motivation during the week. Have you ever had one of those weeks, when you’re just going through the motions? For me, that was about a month ago. Finally, I decided enough was enough. It’s not a feeling that I enjoy, so I tried to find some helpful ways to counteract that lack of motivation. So far it’s been working, which is why I want to share with all of you how I found my motivation during the week.
1. Plan something fun
For me, I found that if I planned something for midweek, then I have something to look forward to during the week. I noticed that I was only looking forward to the weekends, which ultimately made my week go by extremely slow. If we live weekend to weekend, then most of our lives will pass by us. Here are some suggestions; plan a date night, a game night with friends, a movie night (some theaters have half-price tickets during the week), or a self-care night just for you. Regardless of what you choose, plan something that you will look forward to each week.
2. Journal or vision board
Journalling and creating a vision board is a way to get your thoughts, dreams, or goals out of your head. It can be about anything you want. I will take about fifteen minutes each night, to jot down ideas and doodles (yes, I doodle). Most of it is random ideas and inspirations, but it will help inspire me and bring back that motivation.
3. Go for a walk
I find the outdoors and the fresh air always gives me perspective. Now, I run most mornings, but that is part of my weekly routine. I found that going for a walk a couple of evenings during the week is always refreshing. It’s so easy not to go, but each time I do, I’m always happy that I did. I will use this walk to relax. Walking is also a perfect activity to do with a friend or a significant other.
4. Think about the positives
Try to think about the positives in your life. It’s so easy to get lost in thinking about the things you don’t have or what you want to do in the future. At the end of my day, I will think of at least two positive things that happened either that day or week. This thinking always gives me perspective on the good in my life.
5. Change your routine
Out of all of my tips, this one is my favorite. Now you can plan or not plan for this, but changing your routine. It doesn’t have to be drastic, just a simple change one day a week. I have a pretty strict weekly routine, but that gets redundant. When you change something in your routine, it will help inspire your creativity. It could be as simple as taking a different route to work or getting tea instead of coffee. I highly recommend you try it and see how one little change can make a difference.
So if you find yourself without motivation and you can’t figure out how to get it back, try at least one of these tips. I think you’ll find that they help. I would love to hear how you find your motivation during the week; please leave a comment with your ideas.
