Yes, we know gingham is nothing new, but we can’t help but love this perfect summer print.
Gingham print (pronounced “ging-uhm”) is a medium-weight fabric in a check duotone pattern. This print is most famously known from Dorthy’s dress in The Wizard of Oz, but it has also been a staple in fashion for decades.
For the style maximalist, wearing this print head to toe in several check sizes and colors is such a statement. However, for some, wearing full gingham might feel like wearing a picnic blanket. You can add this print to your accessories or as an accent piece for a more subtle style.
This print is often put in the style box of overly feminine, usually incorporated with dresses or skirts with ruffles. However, this print can be put in silhouettes with sleeker lines.
We first fell back in love with gingham when we saw Anna Sui’s spring-summer 2024 runway show. But if you look at the shows in past and upcoming years, you see this check print all over the runway.
