As we leave summer and enter the fall season, it’s time to prep your closet. “Why?” you might ask. Well to make room for your fabulous fall wardrobe of course. Now, I know you might be still trying to hang onto summer but trust me, with all that fall merchandise coming out you’ll want to get onboard.
Prepping your closet for the next season can be as easy as going through your closet and putting a few items in a donation bag. However, you and I both know it’s not as simple. We bought those pieces because we love them, but babe, it’s time to let go. When prepping your closet for fall, you will need to keep a couple of things in mind.
1. Go through your Spring and Summer Wardrobe
Going through your spring and summer wear will help you identify the pieces that you want to keep for next year as well as remove the pieces that don’t have that sticking power.
2. Start Packing up Summer
By starting to get your summer styles out of the way, it will give you a clearer picture of your fall wardrobe (more space = more visibility). Be sure to keep those transitional pieces while the weather is still making up its mind which season it is.
3. Assess Your A/W Wardrobe
In assessing your existing A/W (autumn/winter) wardrobe from last year, it will help give you an idea of what you currently own and remove the pieces that don’t make sense this year (usually those once upon a time trendy items).
4. Identify What’s Your Need for Fall
With your closet cleaned out and your existing wardrobe assessed, it’s time to take note of what you need. By determining your fall wardrobe needs, this will act as a shopping guideline, so you don’t impulse shop (which are usually the items you end up tossing out later).
Once you follow these 4 simple steps, you will feel so much better about embracing the new fall season. You’ll also have a shopping game plan so that you can start your fall shopping (which is my personal favorite).
