For some of you, the thought of re-wearing your clothes is a no brainer, but there are those where this thought is inconceivable. I know because I was one of the people in the second group. Yes, the idea of wearing the same outfit or someone seeing me in the same clothes was embarrassing.
Why would someone have that reaction? Sometime over our existence, we (as in society) started pushing the idea of buying more and buying new. And if you did that, you will be stylish and put together. The idea of wearing pre-owned clothes meant that you were lower class (see here).
Even today, fashion influencers are constantly pushing new items for you to purchase to wear them. I know because I was one of them. I would buy these one-time wear pieces, share them, and then let them sit in my closet until I finally decide to donate them.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve started to change my mindset and approach to this subject. I’m working to change my message and what I share. I still share my outfits, but in a way to inspire you to go into your closet and find something similar. In the Weekday Wardrobe series (here), I’m adding links to past weeks wearing the same outfit or a look with the same pieces. I add links to the items and similar items in the case where you wanted to get it for yourself. However, I always recommend shopping in your closet first.
Tips For Re-wearing Your Clothes
1. Rethink your mindset on re-wearing your clothes
If you’re in the group that feels that you have to wear something new each week, start understanding why you think that way. Is there a stigma that you think will be attached to you? Whatever it is, try to start thinking about the benefits of re-wearing your clothes.
2. Practice shopping in your closet
When you get the urge to buy something new, explore your closet. I’m confident that there are pieces in there that you have forgotten about or can bring them back to life.
3. Try mix and matching your pieces
Often, we buy new clothes because we’re tired of the same outfits we wear weekly. Try mixing and matching your pieces to create new looks so that your outfits feel fresh. It also makes you feel good to be creative with your wardrobe. Yes, you get extra style points.
4. Share your outfits to promote re-wearing your outfits
If you wear repeat outfits or pieces that you’ve owned, share them. Let’s start normalizing wearing the same pieces. Several celebrities such as Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, and Elizabeth banks have been known to re-wear their same outfits (see here).
