I love mixing textures such as pairing satin and distressed denim. The two fabrics bring a nice contrast of sleek and smooth with rough and rugged to your outfit. Wearing the two different textiles is like having a little bit of good and a little bit of bad, the best of both worlds. Another cool thing about mixing up the looks is you can wear them for day and night, which in my opinion is a win, win situation.
There are so many ways to mix intriguing textiles and color schemes in clothing that can be fun. For example, mixing stripes and florals which were once thought to be faux pas is now intriguing. One of my personal favorites is mixing leather (faux or real) with a more girly fabric such as lace or silk, maybe even ruffles. You could also go for tailored trousers with denim, leather, or flannel. In my previous post “Off the Shoulder Love,” I am showing faux leather with a chunky knit sweater. In regards to color, black and brown which has always in the past been a “no no,” however, I’ve seen it done and fabulous. Just remember, it’s not about what you wear necessarily, but how you wear it. If you mix it, own it.
In this outfit, I am wearing a tailored satin shirt that one would usually find with an adorable pencil skirt or trousers. However, I’m pairing it with this distressed denim that is in a loose boyfriend style. Since it’s summer, I’m wearing neutral espadrille wedges. Since the shirt and shoes are in a neutral tone, I gave it some spice with a decorative handbag. I love this floral beaded bag which can be a clutch or a purse. It adds a delicate and almost vintage look to this outfit. I also added a large cocktail ring for a bit of bling. It’s subtle but still significant enough to still give the outfit a bit of fun. I love the satin and distressed denim combination of this look.
So what now, are you sold? Do you want to start mixing your textiles and colors? Try it out; you might like it.
