By now, you’ve heard that Gen Z has declared skinny jeans “out of style.” Well, skinny jeans and many other things that we’re not going to get into today. However, if you’ve been on social media, then you know that Millennials are NOT happy about this; in fact, they’re quite upset.
Our question is, “why are they upset?” Fashion magazines, publications, and influencer has been stating this fact for the past few years. Is it that the majority of Millennials didn’t want to listen? Or is it the fact that younger generations are making them feel old by challenging them to get out of their comfort zone? Whatever the case may be, we have a moto at The RELM & Co, and it’s one that we will always live by:
WEAR WHAT YOU LOVE!
It’s as simple as that. Style is about wearing something that makes you feel good and confident; it’s an attitude. Fashion, on the other hand, is limiting and only reflects the mimicking of current trends. Now, which do you prefer, style or fashion? If you love skinny jeans, why not wear them regardless of what someone on social media says.
If you ARE looking for an alternate denim style, here are a few that we love right now.
Flares Jeans
Straight-Leg Denim
Wide-Leg Denim
90’s Baggy Style
Mom Jeans
A Note From The Author
I’ve been wearing flares, straight-leg, wide-leg, baggy, boyfriend, mom, girlfriends, and yes, sometimes skinny jeans for years. What does this tell you? I WEAR WHAT I WANT! However, if you’ve noticed, we haven’t highlighted skinny jeans for a while on TR&Co (a few years, actually), mostly because I decided that I didn’t like how that particular style looks on my body type.
However, if I was wearing my jeans tucked under knee-high boots or wearing heels, I maybe bring the 1-2 pairs that I kept out. But, I prefer to explore other styles. Even if it’s only for a short while.
Also, be on the lookout for low-rise jeans. They’ve been creeping back into the denim jeans slowly over the past year.
Closing Statement
In the end, if you love skinny jeans, wear them. We will always encourage you to try new styles out of your comfort zone, but never say that you’re uncool for sticking with what you love.

As a generation Xer, I agree! Wear what makes you comfortable. I just bought a pair of rigid slouch jeans which I haven’t worn since high school. I have to break them in but the comfort is worth the effort. I kept three pairs of skinny jeans for dates and going out but I don’t wear them often.
Learn a long time ago that everyone has an opinion but that doesn’t make it right or true ๐

Yes, you are so right! Wear what you love. The only person’s opinion that matters is your own.

I really hate trends because it limits individualist expression. I say wear what you want and what makes you happy. Trends are for followers, Iโm a leader.
Rebecca Moman says
Agreed. We should wear what we love and what makes us feel good. My style has always been an expression of myself as an individual.

I don’t even wear jeans. I never did. Don’t you people have anything better to talk about?
Rebecca Moman says
Well, jeans aren’t for everyone. As I always say, wear what you love. Thanks for joining the conversation.
