I recently stayed at the Skyview Motel in Los Alamos (see my preview post here). You may be wondering where and what is Skyview Motel? Well, I’m here to share my thoughts and experience.
I’m going to start by stating this article is not sponsored by the Skyview Motel or any of its affiliates. This is my honest review. I first became intrigued by this place a couple of years ago when I saw it on someone’s Instagram story. I feel in love with the ambiance immediately.
Skyview Motel is an older roadside motel, very 1950s, that has been refurbished in a modern desert chic style. It’s located in Los Alamos, a small town right in the middle of wine country.
First Impression
It’s located about 50 miles from where I live (San Luis Obispo, CA), so it was a short drive. The entrance is a little confusing because you think that you’re going to get back on the freeway, but the driveway is alongside it. Once I figured it out, I drove up the long and narrow driveway to check-in.
I was instantly struck by the overall ambiance and how intimate it appeared. It’s just as cute as all of the photos that I’ve seen. As I checked in, I was offered a glass of complimentary wine (yes, please and thank you) and then given the key to my room. It was an actual key!
The Room
I stayed in one of the Deluxe rooms, which I instantly loved as I entered. The room had a king-size bed, an in-room fireplace, a private patio that overlooked the hills of Los Alamos, and a firepit (I kid you not).
The decor, they call rustic-chic, but it reminded me more of desert-chic due to all of the cacti and succulents. As a blogger, I always appreciate it when a room’s decor is photogenic and it was. It was spacious and plain adorable. I was very excited about the back patio overlooking the hillside and firepit. To which, I sat in the evening with a glass of wine.
The Amenities
My first stop after dropping off my luggage was the pool (of course, right). It’s always sunny in Central Cali, so it was warm with a slight breeze. The pool is lined with black and white lounge chairs and a couple of daybeds. It was peaceful and quiet. The pool was on the smaller side, but large enough to get a nice soak. I also happened to be there during happy hour, so of course, I got a craft cocktail at the poolside bar.
After the pool, I went to dinner at the onsite restaurant, Norman. It was a smaller restaurant, with a small menu, but don’t let that stop you because it was delicious. I order a dirty martini and the charcuterie plate.
The following morning, I had a complimentary breakfast served in the lobby and patio. It was a full spread with overnight oats, croissants, eggs, homemade apricot jam, and your classic beverages. There was something very personal about the spread, which set it apart from other places that I’ve stayed. I ate my breakfast on the lobby’s back patio that overlooked the beautiful Los Alamos countryside.
There are other amenities that Skyview offered, which I did not take advantage of since I had such a short stay. For example, they offer bikes if you want to ride into the town of Los Alamos.
Closing Statement
Overall, I enjoyed every aspect of my stay at the Skyview Motel. Everything from the rooms, the pool, the firepit, and the ambiance was incredible. Although you’re so close to the freeway, it’s a very secluded vibe. I will be going back again, especially since I live so close.
