The term social distancing is the hot buzz word that is trending, encouraging people to stay at home. Now, as an introvert, this may seem like a dream, just like in contrast, I’m sure it’s an extrovert’s nightmare. As a self-proclaimed social introvert (see >> here), I think I’m just the person to share on this subject.
Being at home for an extended period isn’t as easy as you think (hello, cabin fever, anyone). But the key is to keep yourself entertained and occupied enough that you’re not thinking about it. I don’t know about you, but I can only Netflix binge for a day max before I start getting restless.
So what is there to do besides watch TV? Well, I have a few ideas that have helped me spend my introvert weekends.
10 Activities While Social Distancing
Read a Book
If there was ever a time to start those books that you’ve been piling up, it’s now. We often give the excuse, “I don’t have any time,” mostly because we’re always so busy on the weekends. Books are also a wonderful escape from the stressors in life. If you’re looking for book recommendations, I have some great ones >>here.
Take An Online Course
OMG! I’m all about taking online courses. I think I’m currently enrolled in three right now. Educating yourself or learning a new skill is the perfect way to spend a weekend. I’m taking a few courses on creativelive, and I’ve heard masterclass is excellent as well (not sponsored). There are seriously so many courses online; all you have to do is search.
Clean, Clean, Clean
Clean your <insertanything>! Seriously, cleaning is the worst, but it’s the perfect time to do it. Especially if it’s your house because you’re going to be spending a lot of time there. If you’re looking at tips for cleaning your closet, check out my article >>here.
Cook/Bake
I’m one of those people who are constantly pinning recipes on Pinterest or saving them on Instagram, but I rarely make them. There are no excuses now! Pull up your favorite recipe, get the supplies (or see if you have them), and get going.
Start a Hobbie or DIY Project
For me, this is a big one. I love, love, love DIY projects. I’ve done projects such as making jewelry, coasters, pillows, etc. Honestly, Pinterest is another perfect place to find DIYs. Hobbies are another great way to spend your time. For me, I’m planning on pulling out my camera and start taking more pictures. Painting, learning a musical instrument, and sewing are great options, as well.
Start a Side Hustle
Oh yeah, babe. You know that side hustle that you’ve been dreaming about, well, it’s time to start it. I have two side hustles (yes, I said two), and I’m so happy that I have them. If you don’t know where to start, feel free to message me via Instagram or comment on this post. I’m always down to help.
Begin a Journal
Since there is so much going on in life, it feels good to write about your feelings. This is a healthy coping practice that therapists and self-help gurus have been preaching for years. Not only does it help with stress, but it helps you understand your thoughts and emotions.
At-Home Spa Day
Who doesn’t love a good spa day? Get out that comfy robe, draw that bubble bath, and light some candles. It’s time to relax. We always talk about self-care and relaxing, so let’s do it. I always keep a good supply of masks and beauty treatments for these exact moments.
Play a Game or Start a Puzzle
I’m a big game person, so I love board games. However, these only work if you’re at home with another person. There are games that you can play online, or if you want to be solo, start a puzzle. Puzzles are fun because you can begin them, leave, and go back.
Do an At-Home Workout
Working out is vital if you’re going to be social distancing. Staying active is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, keeping stress at bay, and encouraging those “feel good” emotions. I’m a runner (check >>here), but there are plenty of online and free workouts available.
Closing Statements
Wow, so many good ideas for what to do while social distancing. Honestly, I could have gone on for hours. I encourage you to try a few of these yourself. It will 100% help you when you’re at home. Let me know if you have any ideas as well. I love trying new ways to stay occupied at home.
