I know it doesn’t feel like spring is near due to the insanely cold weather this year, but it’s right around the corner. I’ve had a lot of questions about the upcoming trends. So this entire post is dedicated to just that. Now for me to bring you the trends each season, I have to do my research. How do I do that? Well, I have a couple of different ways.
Trends don’t instantly come into full effect; they often start trickling in the previous year. So I watch influencers who are early adopters. I also review online publications such as WWD, Who What Wear, TagWalk, and keep an eye out in magazines such as Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. For each Fashion Week, I take note of the runway shows and reviews as well as the street style looks.
Colors
Each season brings on a round of new colors that will start appearing in clothes, shoes, magazines, and all over the ‘gram. SS19 brings a range of colors. Neon and bright bold colors are taking their place in the spotlight. Pastels, which started gaining traction the previous season, are in full effect this SS19. The color Sage or Pistachio will be the highlight of the pastels. If colors aren’t your jam, don’t worry because the beige and earth tones from fall are staying strong this upcoming spring.
Prints
There’s no stopping animal print, especially leopard. So if you stocked up on the leopard in fall, you can rest easy that you can keep wearing it for spring and summer. Another animal print I’m seeing is cow print. I was around the last time cow print was popular, so I’m curious how much it will catch on and stay on trend.
Another print, which started in the ’70s, had a come back in the ’90s is now hot for SS19. You guessed it; it’s tie-dye, which goes well with the acid wash that is showing up in denim. A few other prints that are showing up include tropical, which is perfect for summer, and picture/art graphics.
Themes
There are a few different themes that have started showing up for SS19. The western look was slowly entering the scene in fall but is coming stronger this next season. That would probably explain the cow print. Along with the western theme, the prairie look is also coming in hot, mostly in dresses and tops.
A strong utilitarian look is also making its way into fashion. This style is a functional yet military-inspired style (think cargo with utility pockets). Another look, which started last spring and summer with early adopters, but is showing up more is the ’90s sport. An example of this is bike shorts. Yes, I bought a pair last year, but ultimately decided that it wasn’t my style. However, the bike shorts paired with a blazer is pretty incredible. Finally, the last theme that is coming in for SS 2019 is the romantic and an overall very feminine look.
Embellishments
There are a lot of embellishments that you’ve either started seeing or you will see very soon. A lot of these will support the themes listed above and are present in clothing and accessories. Are you ready? Ok, here we go. Ruffles and feathers were seen on the runways garnishing dresses and handbags. Both add to the romantic and feminine theme mentioned above. A few others that are more on the boho side are crochet and fringe. Again, showing up in sweaters, dresses, and accessories. Keeping the ’80s alive fishnet is showing up not only in legwear but in dresses and tops. Lastly, statement sleeves are continuing to be big this year.
Closing Statement
Whew, that was a lot to take in, right! Don’t let it overwhelm you and don’t try to incorporate each trend into your wardrobe. Find the style that fits with your look and
