We might be ruffling some features here, but we’re going to talk about the meaning of sustainable fashion. At least in our opinion. And that’s just it. The term sustainable fashion means something different to everyone.
It could mean ethical fashion, vegan fashion, slow fashion, no-buy, low-buy, no fast fashion, conscious fashion, thrifted, minimalist, capsule, etc. Sometimes, it means all of those things, and for others, it means only a few.
To us, dear readers (obviously, I’ve been watching Bridgerton), it’s about your own personal journey with sustainable fashion. And like all journeys, there’s a starting point and learning along the way. Where you begin will evolve into something different.
When starting your sustainable fashion journey, you’re more than welcome to go all in. However, for us at The RELM & Co, we found that finding one or two places to start and grow from there is a way to bring lasting change.
My Personal Journey
My personal sustainable fashion journey started as I realized that I was consuming more than I needed. I’m talking an excessive amount. First, I had to recognize why I was buying so much. There’s often an underlying reason for excessive shopping and hoarding of clothes.
My next steps included understanding my personal style and building a wardrobe to wear the majority of the pieces. Here are some of my current focus point for my sustainable fashion:
- Focusing on wearing what I own
- Thrifting when I can (but not over thrifting)
- Minimal fast fashion shopping (lasting pieces)
- Changing my shopping habits
I know my sustainable fashion journey is just beginning, and it will evolve. I’m learning more as I grow and step into this lifestyle.
Closing Statement
There should be no judgment on someone’s journey into sustainable fashion. As we share our experiences with others, we are taking you all along our journey and providing education. Will we get it wrong? Yes. Will we get it right? Yes. But that’s all part of the way to creating a sustainable lifestyle.
