Since it’s getting sunny, you will be spending more time in the sun, which means your after sun care game must be on point. Most of the time, we focus on sun protection, but after sun care is just as crucial for your skin.
No matter how much SPF you apply, sun damage is bound to happen. When I was younger, the only after sun care was aloe vera gel and lotion. Now, there are so many great products and tips that can help reduce the after-effects of sunburns and the effects of heat.

Sun Burn Tips
1. Stay Hydrated
It’s vital that during and after your time in the sun you should drink water. I know, so cliché, but staying hydrated will not only help your skin, but it will help with the after-effects of the heat.
2. Get Out Of The Sun
As soon are you start feeling your skin heating up, get out of the sun. This tip is more challenging than you think, especially if you’re having fun. However, if you can reduce any sun exhaustion or burns, the more you’re skin and body will thank you.
3. Cool Down
Immediately start cooling down. You can take a cold shower, but the water pressure might hurt your burn. Try applying a cold cloth or compress to any burn areas as well as your head and neck.
4. Apply After Sun Care Products
After your cool down, apply your after sun care products (see above). You will want to treat your skin to start the healing process. Certain areas of your body such as your face, neck, and décolleté, so they will need some extra attention. Products that include aloe vera and coconut oils are fantastic for burns and relief.
5. Keep Your Skin Moisturized
In the days after your sun exposure, you will need to keep your skin moisturized. You’ll want to continue to apply your after sun care in addition to applying a LIGHT moisturizer a couple of times a day. A heavy moisturizer will not allow your skin to breathe. Include your SPF in this daily routine.
6. Cover Your Skin
Now, this might sound silly, but if you have a sunburn, you will want to cover your skin. You’ll want to wear soft clothing that covers the burn area. I find that maxi dresses are great for protecting your legs, and soft cardigans are great for your arms. Stay away from stiff fabrics such as denim because they will irritate your burn.
Closing Statement
Since we’re staying inside during most days, this means our skin will be extra sensitive when we get exposed to the sun. No matter what, apply your favorite SPF product regularly when being exposed to the sun.
