The color pink and I have had an on again off again relationship. When I was younger, my favorite colors were pink and purple. Everything I wanted was in pink and purple. I grew to love other colors instead of pink. However, there would be several moments, when I was back into it with full force. This “pink” moment would consist of me buying nothing but pink accessories or clothing. This love would only last for only a short time, and then I would be completely over the color. I would even go as far to say that during that time I hated the color.
Now my distaste for the color was not because of the visual appeal of the color because there are moments when I loved the color, and it’s many shades. It stemmed from what my interpretation of what this color represented, which was “girly.” Not that being “girly” was bad, but that was not my personality. I was a tough and independent person, feminine but by no means girly. When I would wear pink, I would feel like a “poser” or just not be myself. These feelings, usually led to me quickly get rid of all of my pink things and go back to disliking the color.
Looking back, I know now that it was a bit of not understanding who I was and who I want to be. I wear pink all the time now because I love the color and what it also represents. The color is lovely, strong, bold, encouraging, and feminine. When you understand who you are and embrace characteristics of yourself, you can wear and accomplish anything. If you are afraid of something in your life, even if it’s as simple as a color, face those fears. You might find out more about yourself than you realize. Maybe that you, like me, are even a bit girly at times.
