I was recently shopping at a Target when I stumbled across Honest Beauty products. You know the kind of Target shopping trip where you stroll down the isles to see if there’s anything new that catches your eye. Well, the Honest Beauty packaging did just that. In true Target shopping fashion, I put several items into my cart.
Now, I want to start by saying that Honest Beauty or Target does not sponsor this post. It’s just my honest review (pun totally intended) โ my goal for you to my thoughts and opinions on the items. Lately, I’m starting to look at more clean, safe, and natural products to add (or replace) my current skincare routine.
About the Company
So when I bought these products, I had no idea this was Jessica Alba’s company. According to this article in Allure, the company launched in 2015 and went through a rebranding in 2018. They cut their inventory almost in half. They focus on clean and safe products, which is why it caught my eye in that Target isle in the first place.
Skincare & Make-up
To be honest (there it is again, I can do this all day), my review will focus on a handful of their skincare and make-up products. I didn’t dive into their hair care products; maybe I’ll save that for another post.
Cleansing
The first cleansing products that I tried was the Gentle Gel Cleanser and the Make-up Remover Wipes. I’ll start with the gentle cleanser. This gel cleanser worked well. I found that it not only smelled nice, but it felt good as well. It didn’t quite take off my eye make-up, most likely because I use waterproof eyeliners and mascara. I’m generally using multiple products. Overall, I recommend this cleanser, especially if you wear light make-up.
My favorite product from Honest Beauty has got to be the face wipes. Wow! I love these little beauties. They make my face feel clean and refreshed. I even keep them in my gym bag for a quick wipe after a good workout. I’m going to give two thumbs up on the make-up remover wipes.
Finally, after loving the other cleansing products, I decided to try the Gentle Konjac Sponge. This pink sponge is used in place of a washcloth. And I’m sure it’s better on your skin. At first, it doesn’t seem like anything you would want to rub on your face, but once you run water on it, the sponge softens up. I really liked this product and thought it worked well, but I don’t think it’s something that I will use consistently. I think the maintenance is too much (hanging to dry and replacing 2-3 months).
Treatments
For the treatment products, I tried 3 different products. The Depuff Eye Cream, the Instant Eye Plump, and the Organic Beauty Facial Oil. I will start with the eye treatments because I wasn’t so much a fan of either one. Honestly, though (hehe), I think I didn’t try them for long enough. I used each one inconsistently throughout the month and didn’t see any results. The creams felt nice, but I like my instant gratification. Maybe I will give them another try. In my opinion, I need something a little stronger for my undereye area (age + work + stress = eye baggage).
I was extremely pleased with the Organic Beauty Facial Oil. I would apply this product on my skin at night or early morning after a long night. After each application, my skin will feel moisturized and revitalized. My skin is slightly dry, so I welcome any product that adds moisture. It’s definitely worth getting this product.
Make-up
I tried three of the make-up products, the Magic Beauty Balm Stick, the Everything Primer, and Lip Crayon (in Honey). For some reason, the Magic Beauty Balm is under skincare on their website, but it’s actually a highlighter that is fantastic at creating that perfectly dewy look. I will usually add a quick dab on my cheekbones to help give the illusion that I’m more awake and refreshed than I am in reality (shhh, that’s our little secret).
I like the Everything Primer as well, but not like you would think. It’s a matte primer that smells similar to the playdough that you had when you’re a kid (I love that smell). I don’t really like the way it feels under make-up, but it’s perfect for a “no make-up” day. It evens out your skin by giving it a matte finish.
The Lip Crayon in Honey is the perfect neutral lip shade. I would wear it more, but unfortunately, I need a long-lasting lip color. One sip on that morning caffeine and this lip color is gone. It’s too bad because I genuinely love the color. I might try combing it with another lip color that stays so that I can get some use out of it.
Closing Statement
In my journey to start using more clean and safe skincare, I found some great products. If I had to choose my top 3 favorites from Honest Beauty, it would be the Make-up Remover Wipes, the Organic Facial Oil, and the Magic Beauty Balm Stick. Since I’ve started, I’ve bought the facial wipes by the truckload (not really, but you know what I mean). Have you tried Honest Beauty products? If so, tell me what you like or didn’t like about them. Also, if you have any other beauty recommendations, please share!
