The faux leather trend has officially taken off. This season, you see faux pieces on tops, on bottoms, as dresses, and in accessories. And, you can style these pieces in the same outfit, which has traditionally been a fashion faux pas.
Faux leather pieces, once considered on the lower end of fashion, are now showing up at higher price points and in luxury lines. Fashion designer Stella McCartney has been the leader in creating animal-free pieces.
Faux leather is made from plastic and heavily treated. There are two primary types of this synthetic fabric, PU (polyurethane) and PVC (polyvinyl chloride), also known as Vinyl.
Benefits of Faux Leather
- Often more cost-effective
- More ethical and animal conscious
- It can come in many different colors
- It’s more stain-resistant and durable
Closing Statements
Although there is not much that can compare to the quality of real leather, the synthetic version is getting a lot more attention. Now, if you’re still on the “only the real stuff for me” train but want to be more conscious, try to buy thrift or second-hand pieces.
