So when you think of Valentine’s Day, naturally you think of it as being a couples holiday. However, I’m here to tell you that this holiday can be for everyone, even if you don’t have a significant other. One of my favorite memories as a young adult was every year for Valentine’s Day, my older sister Mandy would get each sister something special for Valentine’s Day. Sometimes it would be pajamas or our favorite movie, no matter what it was it was the thought that counted. So I was lucky at a very young age to recognize this holiday as being something fun for everyone. I have put together a list of ideas that people in any relationship can do on this cute holiday.
By Yourself
- Rent movies. Go on Amazon or Netflix and rent a couple of movies (any movie genre). Order yourself a nice dinner to get delivered (Thai or pizza for me) and open a bottle of wine. Renting a movie with delivery one of my favorite past times when I’m home alone during a holiday.
- Treat yourself. Get a manicure and pedicure or get your hair done at a salon. Just because you are single doesn’t mean that you can’t look good. It always feels so good when you just take time for yourself.
- Do a DIY project. There is always that DIY project that you have pinned on Pinterest that you keep telling yourself you will do. Well, this is the perfect opportunity to take the time create something fun and unique.
Single with Friends
- Dress up and get dinner. No rule says that you have to be a couple to go out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. For this reason, why not get fancy and go out to a nice dinner with a group of your friends.
- Go on a spa day. Get a group of your friends together for a relaxing day at the Spa. There is nothing like spending a day hanging out coupled with great conversations and each other’s company to help build lasting friendships.
- Take a group fitness class together. Another fun thing to do with your friends is to take a fitness class that you have always wanted to try. Taking a class an excellent opportunity to take that Krav Maga, Boxing, Yoga, or Bootcamp class. As a result, you are experiencing something new with your friends and doing something active.
In a Couple
- Go on a day trip. One of my favorite “couple” dates is taking a day trip. I especially love those short road trips where you create a playlist and eat junk food along the way. Your destination does not have to be far; however, it should be something you both want to explore.
- Make dinner together. Most people think to go out to dinner for this holiday, but I have found that restaurants can be crowded and less intimate. I believe that making dinner as a couple is so much more gratifying and a great way to spend some quality time together.
- Paint a picture. Now if you are looking for something out of the ordinary and unique, then painting a picture together is just the thing for you. This activity when both of you find an image and each paint your version. I believe that this event provides so many memories for you both to share and look back on.
With Kids
- Create Valentine’s Day cards. Getting your children together for some arts and crafts time to create Valentine’s Day cards is always a treat. In fact, you can make cards to send to family and friends.
- Decorate the house in hearts. One idea that I heard from one of my sisters is to decorate your house with hearts, banners, and lanterns in order to create a special day for the kiddos.
- Make a special breakfast. Plan to wake up early in the morning and make breakfast as a family. It’s moments like these the kids will remember and cherish.
Ultimately, whoever you plan to spend Valentine’s Day with I hope you have that you have a fantastic time.
