I know it’s halfway through January, but I feel like it’s never too late to set up goals. I’ve been thinking about what I want to focus on in my wardrobe this year. I feel like for all of 2016; I would just buy clothes, accessories, and shoes (especially shoes) on impulse. If there was a sale, I was there purchasing something that I “might need” in the future.
That mindset is expensive and wasteful because I have a closet full of items that I don’t wear. I recently cleaned out my closet, and most of the clothes that I was giving away had their tags still on them. I also totally forgot that I owned some of the pieces. So I started thinking that I should set up some wardrobe goals to set myself up for success in 2017.
Wardrobe Goal 1:
Shop with a purpose. So many times this past year I would buy clothes and shoes on impulse or just because there was a sale. I want to focus on thinking about what I am buying and why am I buying it. I want to have a cohesive wardrobe, and any new items will have to be in alignment with the existing items.
Wardrobe Goal 2:
Go shopping in my closet. There are a lot of times that bought something that I already owned or owned something similar. As a result, I ended up with multiples of the same clothes or style of shoes (I’m pretty sure I have at least three v-neck black bodysuits). I have so many new items in my closet that are still new with tags, so most likely I do not need to buy anything new. So before I go shopping or hit the web, I want to go into my closet and review the pieces that I already own (new and old).
Wardrobe Goal 3:
Focus on fit. A lot of times I will buy clothes and shoes that will semi fit. I tell myself “it might work if I lose weight” or “it kind of works but it’s uncomfortable.” I usually keep these items and then never end of wearing them.
Often after I set goals, they last for a month or two and I forget them. So after I set these wardrobe goals, how will I stay on track with these goals? To maintain these wardrobe goals, I will assess my success a month at a time. The key to keeping any goal is to make sure they are obtainable and take them in small chunks at a time. I’ve already started for January, only 11 and a half more months to go. Wish me luck!
