This post is all about the wisdom that was passed down to me from my mom. Now I consider myself lucky to have such an amazing mother. I know most people say that, but I don’t care, it’s true. She’s pretty spectacular. My mother has taught me a lot about life either directly or indirectly. So I want to share a few that stand out.
Be a Strong Woman
My mom is one of the strongest females I know. Even before I came into the picture, my mom was already a fierce and outspoken female. She went through things in her life, that although seems normal now, was unheard of at that time. An example of this is at the age of 20 she was a single mom. During that time (the 70’s), being unwed with children was not the norm. Throughout all of it, she stayed strong. She always had a voice in the conversation and encouraged her daughters (she only had girls) to do the same. Whenever I think of my mom, she is the essence of a strong female.
Keep an Open Mind
Now to say my mom is a liberal is an understatement. She has always had more of a “hippy” (entirely her era) mindset. Her style was opposite of my dad, who was a country guy from Missouri. We had an interesting home growing up. She always taught us to respect others and keep an open mind. Everyone is different, and no two people think alike. You don’t have to always agree with people but appreciate their thoughts and beliefs.
Work Hard for What You Want
Ever since I can remember, my mom has always worked hard. It didn’t matter if it was raising kids, going to college after her kids left home, or going into a job market after 20 years of raising kids, she always a lady boss. It’s no surprise that I attribute a lot of my work ethic and my need to continue educating myself to my mother.
It’s true for me to say that I would not be the same person I am today without her. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and encourages me to follow my dreams. She is a wonderful person and is truly a sense of inspiration.
